My mom brilliantly decided to cancel my cable service, since we rarely watch TV. For some reason, that meant taking away all of my channels. I haven't been able to see the Olympics at all (don't worry, it's been recorded) until last night, when I forced my mom to take me to someone else's house to watch the ladies' figure skating.
Wow. Okay. Ice skating is and will still be my favorite sport, but it's losing its sparkle thanks to that new system. Now all that's important is throwing in as many complicated jump combinations as possible. Sure, artistry still counts for something, but even as the commentator said when someone did a jump-split, some little things like those that don't rack up points are rarely performed anymore. And there's requirements for each program too. It just takes out the artistic freedom, and after a while, the programs all appear to be the same. They were just all pretty mediocre. I didn't see the skating that I knew, watched, skated. It was all really disappointing.
Still, it's extremely painful to think that I could've been there had I continued. I still remember my coach trying to teach me random things during my private lessons. Try doing a camel spin. Yes, it's just like a normal spin except with a spiral. No, you're not spinning fast enough. Let go. Okay, try doing lay-back spin. No! Bend back more! Don't be afraid of falling -- you won't! Let's try the lutz. Yes, it's just like a waltz jump. Throw yourself up into the air more; pull in more. You're not using the toe-pick!
All in TWO years.
Anyway, so now I hear these songs every now and then, and before I can register the artist, title, or even genre, I already envision a skating program. Greatest regret? Yeah.
Sarah, could you tell me stuff (e-mail'd be nice -- skyblazer@gmail.com) about University of Chicago? Like programs they offer, financial aid, learning environment, etc. Thanks. ♥
Name (as shown on birth certificate): I'm not sure, exactly, but probably Lulu Chen Wang-Pearce
D.O.B (no lies.): April 7, 1990
Where were you born?: Fairfax.
Where do you currently reside?: McLean
Born late, early, or just in time?: I think on time.
In what order were you born?: 1st child.
Ok, so we've got the background. Let's learn a little more about YOU.
Hair/Eye Color: Dark, dark brown/dark brown (agh, so boring)
Are you happy with yourself in these aspects?: No. Lol. A little more variety'd be nice. ^^
What would you change about each? Maybe slightly redder hair. Lighter eyes? Maybe. Oooh, violet. Ahaha. Longfellow days.
Anything you are physically ashamed of?: My legs are bowed. My nose is ugly. And my hair is like wire.
Any piercings/ink?: Nope.
If so, are you satisified or do you want more?: N/A
