I "skipped" practice to do MUN research, and I heard a lot of amazing VMT gossip. Um, yeah. Joel cancelled ILMUNC at the last minute.
Thursday, January 26, 2006 - 1st Session
ARGH! I forgot all of my suits!! I salvaged thanks to Amy Duncan and Alice Zhang. <33 I was late for breakfast at IHOP, but I had a HUGE breakfast anyway. When we arrived at school, CORINNA was LATE, and I essentially freaked out. I was going to have an announcement for her when I happened to see her.
Bus ride was boring. We watched House of Flying Daggers. Lunch was okay. Pratima was appointed to help me out with Assassins, so we spent the rest of the bus ride rearranging people to prevent them from reaching their roommates.
COMMITTEE!! Pakistan (the guy) was SO cute. And China was really nice (the girl's name was Silky... WTF). I love JP Stevens. France (the guy) looked gay. We spent FOREVER setting the freakin' agenda, and we finally went for Environment, Racism, and Globalization. Also, ILMUNC's whole dumb policy where you have to write working papers and then resolutions was really annoying and definitely delayed our progress exponentially. Originally, we worked with Bangladesh, Nigeria, and Turkey, but later we combined with UK's working paper. All we had time for in the first session (considering we spent forever picking the topic) was only for submitting our working paper.
Assassins was hell. People kept knocking on our door to report kills. Ravi eventually ended up with 33ish, which I believe is a TJMUN record. Aditya was second place with about 10. Anyway, Jeff Zhao kept coming into our room... >_>
At some point Pratima kept moaning and tossing and turning. I got up several times; the first time I woke up, Jeff was there with Cat and Alice (after curfew) to watch porn. WTF. -_-;; Went back to sleep. Then woke up again because Cat and Alice were arguing when to wake up. *sigh* At this point we were all really worried about Pratima and "woke her up" (we thought she was having a nightmare). Apparently she had a REALLY bad stomach ailment. After she started to get chills, we called Cat's mom, Mr McCarthy, Nihan, and we brought in ILMUNC staffers. Crazyyy. She finally settled down. By the way this whole incident happened around 3AM. Weird thing was that Alex (her partner) was also sick earlier.
Friday, January 27, 2006 - 2nd, 3rd Sessions
We all obviously slept in, so again I missed the UPENN tour. *sigh*
Committee was a b!tch. We finally received our working papers, and we spent a large majority of the time combining a bunch of working papers into resolutions. When the resolutions were introduced, we actually started arguing over them even though they essentially contained the same things. UK dissed the EU's resolution by saying she wouldn't support it because it was against her policy (and all of the EU's). Ouch. Spain and Australia also had their own little resolution that was pretty pointless (it didn't pass either). Australia was okay, but Spain was so annoying. What a dumb blonde. She kept whispering while other speakers were, and she was the biggest slacker. Also, our chair was really annoying. She had no idea about parliamentary procedure -- for example, we were allowed to motion to return to the Speaker's List, and she was convinced we had to finish all of our topics, so she actually SET DEADLINES for when we had to finish everything. And they were insane deadlines -- we had to finish debating topics in 2 hours and write/introduce/and vote on resolutions in 2 hours. CRAZY.
We also had this really boring speaker who tried to be cool by cursing.
A bunch of sophomores (Corinna, Vinitra, me) and freshmen (Aditya, Alex, Varun, Nate, Naren) and Pratima went to go eat dinner at Asia on the Parkway. The wait took forever, but we had an amazing bonding time. We found out about Naren's and Poland's (Ada) relationship. ^_~ When we finally had our food, Aditya spent forever trying to get soy sauce, but our waiter kept ignoring him. Ahaha. Poor kid. When we got our fortune cookies, we added 'in bed' to the end of all of them, and we ended up with some REALLY awesome ones (you will find great success in bed, you will change your line of profession in bed, etc). Our dinner group is amazing, and we all love lo mein.
Officer meeting was boring except for the story about Karthik and Silky. Apparently at WMHSMUN Silky flirted a lot with Karthik, and the next day she wrote a resolution with all of his ideas and didn't credit him. Ouch. Cat went to her midnight crisis. I was supposed to go to Jeff's room to watch DVDs, but I chickened out (guys, I'm one of the biggest rule-followers out there).
Saturday, January 28, 2006 - 4th, 5th sessions
OMG. Jeff somehow got into our room! WTF. He poked me in the back, and since I'm REALLY ticklish, I woke up immediately, and I was like "WTF are you doing in our room, Jeff?! Isn't it past curfew??" And he was like "No, 'cause it's time for YOU TO WAKE UP!!!" I kicked him out of our room. Then he came back later to use the bathroom, 'cause he was locked outside of his. WTF.
We voted on our resolutions and started to talk about racism. We ended up working with France (oO) as well as Haiti (who became our buddy), Georgia, China, and others. UK also had a resolution along with Russia, Pakistan<3, etc. After nonsensical arguing, we decided that the resolutions were extremely similar and that both should be pased. x) Oh, at this point Spain became incessantly stupid. She was convinced that if we rushed through our topics, we could get out of committee early. Hah, not very likely. After we introduced the resolution, people immediately went into voting procedures even though they weren't discussed at all. Stupid people. Anyway, since no one wanted to talk about Globalization, we had our chair go talk to the USG and ask if we didn't have to cover all of the topics. Turns out, as we all know, that you don't. Obviously. So we decided to do superlatives and random things (Ukraine sang an amazing Irish sea chanty, France sexed himself out in a walk-off, Naren and Sumit did some weird Indian rap, random boys sang Backstreet Boys, DPRK rapped [but cursed by accident, so she was kicked off]). Oh, yeah, apparently Jason Ethier is "gay". Ahahahaha. I love his hand twisting. X)
TALENT SHOW WAS AMAZING. All of the acts Swi were in ("I'll Make a Man out of You", the Indian rap, etc.) were hilarious. Mr McCarthy performed a birthday dance for us. Nihan and Peter sang the "Elephant Love Medley" from Moulin Rouge (MAJOR LOVE). We (Alice, Cat, and I) were going to fly Sophia, but she freaked, so we didn't. The finale was awesome. Our sophomore class's improv was amazing, especially the spell/duel rap battle. I can't believe they came up with those on the spot. Major love.
The delegate dance was so exciting. NO ANTI-FREAKING RULES. Hell, yeah! Okay, first of all, before you think I'm a whore, if you saw Mike dancing, you would retract all comments. Thanks. So I had at least 5 dances (front and back) with Jeff Zhao, Dan Metzel, a short Indian guy who grabbed me from behind (and since I'm ticklish, I first freaked out), and a tall Indian guy. Yeah. Didn't know their names. =\ I didn't see Pakistan, which was disappointing, but even more disappointing was I couldn't find ANISH SHAH (USA from WMHSMUN)!!!! T_T Okay, so MIKE was basically freaking with random girls that weren't from TJ (and apparently he didn't even know their names/countries) while making out with them. Ew. Ew. Ew. Vinitra also got her freak on. Hawt.
Later I went up to Dan's room just 'cause. Byron, Charlie, Temor, Pratima, and Mike were also there. The guys started telling disgusting jokes, and I learned new slang (like "came" and "hung"). Yuck. When we went back to our room, Pratima and I told the chicken/egg joke to Cat and Alice. Cat fell in love with it so much she called everyone on her address book and left it as a message. Wow. Pratima also told me the biggest, dumbest, most BS "joke" ever. Aiya. If you want to hear either jokes, ask.
Oh, yeah. Apparently it was Chinese New Year? Or was it on Friday?
Sunday, January 29, 2006 - Plenary Session
Pratima and I skipped plenary. We went to eat brunch at TGI Friday's. After we ate, I went to go ask someone for where to pay...
Me: Excuse me. Where do you pay?
Guy#1: No speak English.
Me: *to Pratima* Go talk to him in Spanish.
Pratima: *in Spanish* Where do we pay?
Guy#1: *in Spanish* You don't have to pay.
Pratima: *in Spanish* But we just ate.
Guy#1: *in Spanish* Do you stay at this hotel?
Pratima: *in Spanish* We just ate! Where do we pay?
Guy#1: *in Spanish* Talk to the other guy.
Pratima: *in Spanish* Where do we pay?
Guy#2: *in Spanish* I don't know where you pay. Talk to the woman.
Pratima: Where do we pay, and why doesn't anyone know where to pay?
Woman: OH! You don't have to pay!
Pratima: But we just ate here!
Woman: Are you from this hotel?
Pratima: No, we're from Wyndham and we just ate here at TGI Friday's.
Woman: Well, I appreciate your honesty. Instead of paying $10 each, you guys can pay $5 each.
Me and Pratima: oO Um, okay...
When plenary finished, we waited around for closing ceremonies to start. Poland and I wandered around for a while. Then Pratima and I watched Alex go up and down the escalators. Then I watched Pakistan. And then I saw JP Stevens peoples and asked for their real names.
Well, TJ didn't win (we probably got 5th place), but we (our committee) did well. Corinna and I got a verbal, Naren and Sumit got an Honorable, and Manvi and Jason got an Outstanding. So basically everyone in our committee from TJ won an award. Yayness. Ben got angry at Charlie and I 'cause we weren't taking pictures. Well, was it our fault no one from TJ had won an award up to that point? *sigh*
Afterward a bunch of us went up and down the escalators while we waited for the buses to arrive. I saw Anish. <33 Dude. I don't even think I like him. He's just like... the kind of guy you hook up with, have a great time, and then never see again. Neel didn't go because he was taking the SATs. -_-;;
The busride back was amazing. I fell asleep in the first hour while reading the bio book. My pen was still in my hand (I was taking notes), and Charlie thought it was cute so he took a picture. Hah. Talk about sleep-deprived. Anyway, after we ate, Corinna and I joined the back for 10 Fingers and then Truth or Dare. Shayan had to go to the bathroom and moan loudly (or at least loudly enough so that we could hear). Lol. Poor guy. Someone was also supposed to go sing 'Toxic' and dance with body rolls, but no one wanted to. Aanchal, Robin, Shayan, and I were still the groupies who hadn't gone to first yet. XD Which was why they couldn't play spin the bottle with us, 'cause you know, first base is speshul. We also found out other disgusting things that I don't want to repeat here.
So overall, ILMUNC was pretty damn amazing.
